Drug Name : Clonazepam

Indication :


Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine derivative which is used as a tranquilizer. The test monitors the drug level and toxicity.

Physiology :


Clonazepam is used as an anticonvulsant. It is useful in reducing tardive dyskinesia(involuntary movements).

Normal Values :


10-50 ng/mL (32-158 nmol/L)

Critical Values :


>100 ng/mL (>317 nmol/L)

Test Method :


Gas Liquid Chromatography (GLC), Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)

Interpretation :


Serum peak levels occur approximately 2 hours after oral administration

Side effects :


The most common side effects of clonazepam are dose related and include drowsiness, lethargy, ataxia, dysarthria and dizziness.Miscarriage , malformation , intrauterine growth retardation, floppy infant syndrome or Hypotonia (a state of low muscle tone).
