Ferric maltol is to be taken orally. It is available as 30 mg capsule.
The drug should be taken on empty stomach, as food decreases the absorption of ferric maltol.
Duration of therapy depends on the severity of iron deficiency but usually at least 3 months of treatment is required.
2. Patients receiving repeated blood transfusions
3. Patients with hemochromatosis (Hemochromatosis is a disorder where too much iron builds up in the body) and iron overload syndromes.
Dosage & When it is to be taken
The recommended dose is 30 mg to be taken twice daily, 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.The drug should be taken on empty stomach, as food decreases the absorption of ferric maltol.
