How to Take Mazindol and it's Dose


• Mazindol drugs should be taken with food in divided doses.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

• For obesity, mazindol is started on a low dose of 0,5 to 1 mg, and can be increased on a weekly basis up to a maximum of 3 mg per day in divided doses.
• It is administered for a maximum of 12 weeks.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

Mazindol is contraindicated in the following conditions:

• Allergy to the drug
• Narrow-angle glaucoma
• Severe liver or kidney disease or hypertension
• Heart or brain disease
• Pulmonary artery hypertension
• Psychological conditions like anorexia nervosa, depression, agitation, history of drug abuse or alcoholism (since it is habit forming)
• Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding

Mazindol, a drug used for the treatment of obesity along with lifestyle changes, is not currently available in the United States or the European Union for this purpose.
