How to Take Physostigmine and it's Dose


It comes as a solution for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

Dosage: Adults- IV- 0.5 to 1 mg infused over at least 5 min; repeat in 10 to 15 min as clinically indicated.
Children- IV- 0.02 mg/kg (up to 0.5 mg) infused over at least 5 min; repeat in 10 to 15 min as clinically indicated (up to a total dose of 2 mg).
Post anesthesia care- Adults- IV/IM- 0.5 to 1 mg; repeat at intervals of 10 to 30 min as clinically indicated.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

It should not be used in patients with asthma, gangrene, diabetes, heart disease, obstruction of the intestine or urogenital tract, in patients receiving choline esters and depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents.

Drug Name : Physostigmine

This medication is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor alkaloid, prescribed for reversal of anticholinergic toxicity.
