How to Take Tropicamide Ophthalmic and it's Dose


It comes as an eye drop to instill into the affected eyes.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

Adult: Production of mydriasis- As 0.5% solution: Instill 1-2 drops 15-20 minutes before examination.
Production of cycloplegia- As 1% solution: Instill 1-2 drops, repeated after 5 minutes.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

Hypersensitivity, narrow-angle glaucoma or shallow anterior chamber.

This medication is an anticholinergic, prescribed to produce mydriasis (dilatation of the pupil).
