Side effect(s) of Tropicamide Ophthalmic

  Eye
- Increased eye pressure, transient stinging, blurred vision, photophobia and superficial corneal inflammation.

  Miscellaneous
- Dry mouth, fast heart beat, headache, stomach bloating or discomfort, systemic anticholinergic effects, and severe central nervous system disturbances in children (rare).

Other Precautions :

It may fail to produce adequate paralysis of accommodation in children.

Drug Name : Tropicamide Ophthalmic

Tropicamide Ophthalmic(Mydral and Mydriacyl) generic is an anticholinergic, prescribed to produce mydriasis (dilatation of the pupil). Higher doses relax the ciliary muscles that control the curvature of the eye lens. Thus the eye cannot adjust the lens for near or far vision. This is called paralysis of accommodation or cycloplegia.
