Subject: MNAMS/MAMS qualifications awarded by the National Board of Examination - Equivalence of - regarding.

Sir,

Kindly refer to this Ministry's letter No.V.11025/479-ME (Policy) dated the 24th May, 1979 and No.V.11025/4/79-ME (P) dated the 9th/11th December, 1981 (Copies enclosed) regarding the equivalence of MNAMS and MAMS qualifications awarded by the National Board of Examinations with the post-graduate degrees of Indian Universities. It has already been clarified in the above mentioned letters that as the MNAM and MAMS qualification awarded by the National Board of Examinations are included in the First Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and are considered at par with other postgraduate medical qualifications of the Indian Universities. However, it has been brought to our notice that employing organisations are not recognising these degrees as equivalent to MD/MS degrees of other Universities. In view of the fact that Government attaches importance to the National Board of Examination which is keeping high standards of medical examination and it is an autonomous body directly under the control of Central Government, it is requested that all concerned may please give due importance to these qualifications and also prescribe them as equivalent to MS/MD of Indian Universities for all posts including teaching posts.

It may please be brought to the notice of all recruiting agencies under your control for information and compliance.

Yours faithfully

Under Secretary to the Govt. of India
