Subject: MNAMS/MAMS qualifications awarded by National Board of Examinations - regarding.
Sir,
1. In our letter No. V.11025/4/79-ME (Policy) dated the 24th May, 1979 it was clarified in consultation with the Medical Council of India that as the MNAMS and MAMS qualifications awarded by the national Board of Examinations are included in the First Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, and are considered at with other post graduate qualifications and should also be included in the Recruitment Rules of appointment to medical post where requirement is post-graduate medical qualification and should also be included in the Recruitment Rules for appointment to medical posts where requirement is post graduate medical qualification and should also be mentioned also with other post graduate medical qualifications in the advertisement for such issued by the various State Government/State Public Service Commissions. However, as far as appointment to teaching post was concerned, MNAMS qualifications with an MD/MS degree of Indian Universities, shall undergo one years research experience in an institution recognized by the Council and duly accepted by the Medical council of India after necessary evaluation.
2. The matter has since been re-considered in consultation with the Medical Council of India and it has now been decided as under:-
(a) The holders of MNAMS/MAMS qualifications was awarded after an examination could be considred of specialiss posts in any hospital which is not training/teaching medical qualifications.
(b) They will be eligible of appointment to the post of Registrars/Tutors/Demonstrators etc. and this would be counted as research experience and
(c) For other teaching post the holders of MNAMS/MAMS degrees will be required to fulfill the requirement of one year research experience as already prescribed.
3. This is brought to the notice of all concerned for information and compliance.
