Final Examination
Broad Specialties
5.1 Final examination will consist of two parts
a. Theory - 4 papers
b. Practical including viva voce.
For details of contents of papers the candidates should consult the syllabus of the specialty concerned. Basic Sciences as applied to the particular specialty would be covered in
paper IV.
5.2 Eligibility Criteria
A. Applicants for Final Examinations should have
(i) Passed Primary Examination of the Board OR should possess postgraduate degree/ diploma, recognised by MCI / University and
(ii) Should have completed not less than three years of training as Postgraduate student from an *institution or *hospital recognised by MCI / NBE / University as suitable for postgraduate degree training (including one years housemanship or its equivalent training approved by MCI / University of which at least six months shall be in the specialty). Candidates registered for 3 years MD / MS courses will not get any credit of housejob that might have been completed before joining MD / MS courses.
(iii) Diploma Holders (irrespective of their having passed the Primary Examination and having completed one year of housejob/Special Training before joining the diploma course) are required to undergo additional training for one year after passing their Diploma in their subject in a *Hospital recognised by MCI / NBE / University for Postgraduate Degree training.
(iv) Candidates who have been working in Institutions abroad must send details duly certified by the Head of the Institution on (I) status of the hospitals recognised by University / Examining Body (ii) the period of training (duration), (iii) contents of training, (iv) details of training programme, (v) clinical responsibilities including emergency work, (vi) Performance record (Log Book-including operative work handled independently or assisted), in order to determine their eligibility.
(v) The following category of candidates are also allowed to take the final
examination of the Board.
a) Candidates with atleast PG Diploma qualification recognised by MCI/University working as Tutor/Demonstrator/Sr. Resident/Registrar Specialty Medical Officer/Specialty or any other equivalent full-time post in approved teaching institutions for a period of one year after acquisition of their qualifications provided they produce a certificate from the Head of the Institution to this effect.
b) Candidates with similar qualifications as in above working in NBE accredited non-teaching institutions in similar or identical positions.
c) Candidates holding alteast PG Diploma qualifications recognised by MCI/University and have been working as Research Officer/Pool Officer with clinical responsibilities same as that of a 3rd year postgraduate resident can also apply provided they furnish a certificate for the requisite period of training (one year after PG Diploma course) duly signed by the Head of the Department countersigned by the Head of the Institutions.
(vi) Candidates who will be appearing in their MD/MS Examinations (before the start of Board's examination) can also apply before the due dates of August 1995 session. They will be allowed to appear in the Theory Examination. However their result will not be declared unless the MD/MS pass certificate is received by the Board. In case the candidates appear in their MD/MS Examinations after the Boards Examination, their results will not be declared and will be treated as fresh candidates with full fee.
*Hospitals attached to Medical Colleges/Postgraduate Medical Institutions, recognised by the MCI/University for postgraduate degree training in various specialties are recognised by the NBE for training to qualify, for admission to the final examinations, provided student teacher ratio of 1:1 is maintained (i.e. one postgraduate degree student per recognised postgraduate teacher including the University and Boards Candidate). A certificate to the effect from the head of the Institution shall be attached along with the application.
B. House job requirement for the following subjects.
(i) For Radio-therapy, Radio-diagnosis and Anesthesiology the housemanship may be in Medicine or Surgery or their respective allied sciences.
(ii) For the subject of Maternal and Child Health, house job for a period of six months each in Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology from a recognised Institution is acceptable.
(iii) Work done as District Epidemiologist for a period of one year shall be considered at par with the house job required for admission to postgraduate course in Social & Preventive Medicine.
C. Eligibility criteria for Health Administration including Hospital
Administration.
(i) Experience of work as administrative medical officer in Hospitals/Institutions/Primary Health Centres/District Hospitals/ESI Hospitals recognised by MCI/University/NBE for training of interns or housemen or postgraduates in all the subjects (ii to xxii) given in Section-I. The Primary Health Centres will include only those centres that are attached with medical colleges with necessary indoor beds.
(ii) Administrative experience in general hospitals with both OPD & indoor services with minimum bed strength of 75, providing medical, surgical, obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatric services with full diagnostic facilities including radiology, on scrutiny of the work load of the hospital and assessment of medical nursing & para medical staff by the Board.
(iii) A candidate possessing a postgraduate degree/diploma in the specialty or associated specialty (Sl. No. xix to xxi under Broad Specialities) and having worked as Civil Surgeon/District Medical Officer of Health / Asstt. Director of Health and Medical Services or equivalent positions in ESI Corporations. Municipal Health Department or other organisations will be considered to have fulfilled the criteria required for eligibility.
(iv) In the case of Armed Forces Medical Services, Commanding Officers of large hospitals, Professor/Associate Professor of Department of Hospital Administration in AFMC Pune, Medical Officers with MHA qualifications and Medical Officers having 5 years experience in hospital administration will be deemed to have fulfilled the eligibility requirement.
(v) Three months exemption in total training period of three years will be given to candidates possessing MBA qualification.
D. Eligibility Criteria for Family Medicine
Three years Training shall include 300 hours of accredited training as follows:
a) Minimum of 50 hours in each of the three major components. (Surgery, Medicine & Obstt. & Gynaecology & remaining period in other disciplines. The certificate should indicate the name of other disciplines in which the candidate has received training).
b) The training should have been obtained in an institution / General Practice under a recognised Supervisor and should include:
(i) Lectures, demonstrations, Clinical Meetings, grand round O P D, in patient practice.
(ii) Correspondence or other equivalent course, such as refresher training/orientation course organised by Associations/Institutions approved by the NBE/and totaling 300 hours; OR in a Department/Institution/General Practice recognised by NBE/MCI.
E. Credit for Broad Specialties
Candidates wishing to appear in the Final examinations in the broad clinical specialties, will be given credit upto a maximum of one year, out of three years of training received in a recognised institution in any super specialty listed against the broad specialties given in column 2 of the table.
