Control and eradication of an infectious disease is by elimination of reservoir, elimination of vector and by vaccine. Since these avenues are not present in leprosy the only modality is detection of the disease at the earliest and treat it completely.
Early detection is done by survey of the susceptible population by means of contact survey, school survey and slum survey and treat them effectively through control programmes.
