Taking the Examination

  • Part 2 of the test is run about 30 times a year, approximately every three to four weeks. The closing date for each test either the date the test comes fully booked or four weeks before the test date.
  • Arrangements for travel and accommodation have to be made by the candidate prior to the date of the examination .
  • The candidate must keep their passport with them at all times.
  • The candidate MUST be present at the test centre by the time stated if not they may be prevented from taking the test on that day.
  • The test will last about one hour and 40 minutes.
  • It is important that the candidate carries along with them proof of identity and the letter from the GMC offering them a place on the test to the examination centre as they will be checked before the test begins.
  • The candidate will be provided with all the materials required during the test and will not be allowed to use any other material for reference.

After the Examination

  • Marking of the Exams are computerized. The overall result of the test will be one of the following: - Pass - Fail
  • This overall
    result will constitute a candidate's PLAB test result.Results will be sent to the candidates registered address approximately two weeks after the date of the test. They will also be available on the website the day after posting. Exact dates will be announced at the time of the examination.
  • On passing the examination the candidate can obtain an application form for limited registration from the GMC website.
  • The candidate should remember that they will need to work under registration in the UK within three years of passing the Part 2 examination, otherwise, they would have to take Part 1 and Part 2 again.
  • In case an individual fails the test he / she can obtain an application form to book another place from the GMC website.
  • Candidates wishing to verify any mark or marks, by means of a clerical check, should submit a request in writing to the PLAB Test Section no later than three weeks after the results have been issued. Fee of £45 must accompany such a request.
  • A response will be issued within 10 working days.
  • A candidate who wishes to make a complaint about the examination should submit a detailed written report to the Head of the PLAB Test Section no later than 28 days after the results have been issued, providing details such as name, address, telephone number and GMC reference number.
  • Acknowledgement of the and investigation of the complaint will be made within 10 working days.
