USMLE Step 2
The step 2 of the examinations consists of two parts :
Clinical skills component : (CS) Measures clinical and communication skills, as well as cognitive skills.
- It has 11 or 12
patient case histories, are given 15 minutes for each patient encounter and 10 minutes to record the patients details . The session usually lasts for 8 hours. The Implementation of Clinical skills examination began in June 2004.
- Clinical knowledge
Component (CK) : is a computer based, multiple choice component of step 2.
- It has approximately 370 multiple choice questions which are divided into eight 60 minute blocks, administered in one nine hour testing session.
- The content
for the examination includes normal growth and development, basic concepts, general principles and Individual disorders . Students should have a through knowledge of understanding the mechanism of Disease, their etiology, pathophysiology and the effects of treatments as well as establishing a diagnosis, interpretation of history and physical findings at the same time be able to apply the principles of management and taking care of patients with chronic and acute conditions in ambulatory and impatient settings.
