Brain tumor is a cancerous or non-cancerous mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain. It can occur at any age and the exact cause of brain tumor is not clear. General symptoms of brain tumor include headaches, seizures, vision problems, behavioral changes, hearing problems. Brain tumor is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children. There are about 130 different types of brain tumor.
Types of brain tumor include Gliomas (originate from brain cells), Meningiomas (arise from the coverings of the brain and spinal cord) and Astrocytomas (so named because their cells look like stars).
Brain tumor is the leading cause of preventable or treatable blindness in children. Every year over 2500 Indian children suffer from medulloblastoma brain tumor. Brain tumor treatments include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biological therapy and steroids.
