OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 26 Doctors at Napa State Hospital (NSH), who are represented by the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD), expressed concern today over Department of Mental Health (DMH) administrative practices, including those that lead to the ill-advised hiring of Claude Foulk as Executive Director of the hospital. Foulk was charged this week in Long Beach with 35 felony counts. He was summarily terminated from his position with DMH.

UAPD President Dr. Stuart Bussey, who works closely with the doctors at Napa State Hospital, stated: "Over the last several years the doctors at Napa State Hospital have been objecting to the DMH's implementation of the federal Enhancement Plan, which they considered detrimental to patient care. They felt like a lot of their complaints were being ignored by managers, including Foulk. We hope that DMH will do a more careful search to find his successor. We need someone who can work closely with the doctors to repair some of the damage that has been done."
The Union of American Physicians and Dentists represents more than 2,000 state-employed doctors.
