Infertility in Older Women

It is already known that as a woman becomes older, her eggs are at an increased risk of becoming aneuploid, since the mechanism by which the chromosomes are held together goes awry. This is referred to as ''loss of cohesion'' hypothesis. Defective cell division in eggs leading to improper sharing of chromosomes could be a reason for the decrease in fertility that occurs in older women.
