Zika is a vector-borne (mosquito) infection that is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. It usually causes mild symptoms in those who contract it. The symptoms include fever, rash, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain that resolve rapidly. Certain antibodies have been identified in the blood of people who have been infected by Zika virus, that could help neutralize the virus and prevent infection. The findings by a research team from the The Rockefeller University could lead to the development of new vaccine and ultimately a new cure for the disease.
