Easy Steps to Make Salt Scrub at Home


Exfoliation has always been an important part of skin care and a must-follow step of beauty regime to get rid of dead cells on the skin. It helps rejuvenate the skin and makes it appear smooth and glowing. Exfoliation also helps open up clogged pores and allows the skin to breathe.

A wide range of body scrubs is available in the market today, including ones that contain natural and organic ingredients. Salt scrub is one of them.

Salt scrubs are made up of sea salts obtained by evaporating sea water. They are very effective in exfoliating and cleaning the dead skin layers from the body, leaving the body smooth, shiny, glowing and beautiful.

Sea salt scrub massage or bath helps de-stress the tired skin after a long day of journey, stress and tiredness. It has been a secret part of beauty regime of many Hollywood beauties like Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, and even the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

There are many salt scrubs available in the market but they come very expensive. So why not make it at home! Here is what you have to do to make your own salt scrub at home.

You will need:

a) 1 cup table salt

b) Half a cup of any oil - olive oil, baby oil, almond oil or vegetable oil.

c) 6 to 7 drops of essential oil - rose oil, lavender oil, vanilla, musk or jojoba oils.

Step 1:

In a bowl, take 1 cup of table salt. You can use kosher salt or sea salt if it is available.

Step 2:

Slowly pour the oil to the salt in the bowl and keep stirring gently with a plastic or stainless steel spoon. Do not use a wooden spoon as it can soak up the oil.

Step 3:

Now add the essential oils to the mixture. These essential oils could be of any fragrance according to your like or preference.

Step 4:

Mix them together gently and your bath scrub is ready for use.

Store this scrub in glass jars with tight lids. If you plan to store it for long periods, it is best to mix some dendritic salt (1 tsp in this case) with the essential oil. This will retain the aroma and reduce clumping. You may blend the essential oil to the other oil first and then add it to the scrub salt.

Exfoliate twice every week to achieve a glowing skin. Take care not to use the salt scrub on injured or cut area of the skin, as it will cause reddening and irritation. It is best to gently rub salt scrub on the skin to avoid any scratches on the skin.

Have a refreshing bath with the home made salt scrub and enjoy the luxury of smooth, clean and youthful skin.
