Agoraphobia - Glossary
Anxiety: An undesirable emotional state associated with psychological and physiological changes in response to mental conflicts.Phobia: Persistent, irrational fear.
Syndrome: A group of symptoms that characterize a specific condition. A set of signs or a series of events occurring together that makes up a disease or health problem.
Depression: Mental state of low mood commonly associated with feelings of sadness, emptiness, despair or loss of interest in life or worldly matters.
Stimuli: Stimulates (temporarily arouses or accelerates) physiological activity of an organ or organ system.
Depersonalization: An alteration of ones self-perception due to which ones feelings of reality is temporarily changed or lost.
Obsessive compulsive: An anxiety disorder that is commonly characterized by the person's obsessive need to perform a particular task or set of tasks.
Tachycardia: Abnormally rapid heart rate (more than 100 beats per minute).
Panic: An acute, intense, overwhelming episodes of anxiety, very often associated with feelings of impending doom.
Delusions: A false, unshakable belief that cannot be corrected with reasoning, and is not in the same social, educational, or cultural background as the patient.
Psychotherapy: The therapy that involves the patient talking about their mental and emotional disorders to a psychiatrist, psychologist, or licensed counsellor for treatment.
