Bacterial Vaginosis - Treatment
The standard treatment for bacterial vaginosis is by using antibiotics
- A five-day course of Metronidazole is effective in 85% of the cases.
- Tinidazole 2gms orally once daily as a single dose.
- Ampicillin or Cephalosporin is also effective against these organisms.
- Tetracycline, Doxycycline or sulfafurazole are alternate antibiotics but they need to be taken for a longer period.
- Tropical Clindamycin cream intravaginally is also known to be effective.
- (Do not consume alcohol when using when using Metronidazole or tinidazole for 3 days after.)
