Symptoms and Signs of Dandy Walker Syndrome

Dandy-Walker syndrome can appear dramatically or develop unnoticed. Symptoms often occur in early infancy.

Symptoms include:

  • Slower motor development
  • Progressive enlargement of the skull

Older children suffer symptoms of increased intracranial pressure. These include:

  • Irritability
  • Vomiting
  • Convulsions
  • Abnormal functioning of the cerebellum may occur
  • Unsteadiness
  • Lack of muscle coordination
  • Jerky movements of the eyes

Apart from the above features, the following findings may also occur:

  • Increased head circumference
  • Bulging at the back of the skull
  • Problems with the nerves that control the eyes, face and neck
  • Abnormal breathing patterns
