Allergic Lid Edema

The most common cause of eyelid swelling is allergy, it is of two types:

  • Local allergy (contact sensitivity)
  • Systemic allergy (angioedema)

Local allergy results in itchy, painless, puffy eyelids. There may be lid skin excoriation also. There is usually a history of recurrence with exposure to allergen. It may involve one or both the eyes.
