Glossary

Achilles tendon: It is a band of connective tissue that extends from the calf muscles to the heel bone.

Arthritis: Inflammation of the joint space.

Bone cyst: It is a fluid filled cavity inside the bone.

Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursa.

CT Scan: A type of scan using X: rays and a computer to produce images of the organs.

EMG: It is a test to check the health of the muscles and the nerves supplying those muscles.

Fasciitis: Inflammation of the fascia.

Ganglion cyst: It is a tumor or swelling on top of a joint or the covering of a tendon containing thick, sticky, clear, colorless, jellylike material.

Gout: It is a form of arthritis occurring due to deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint. Hyperuricemia is also present.

Heel spur: Bony growth near the heel bone.

Hyperuricemia: Increased levels of uric acid in the blood.

MRI Scan: Thisis a type of scan that uses magnetic field and radiowaves to produce detailed images of the organs of the body.

NCS: It is a test used to check the ability of electrical conduction in motor and sensory nerves.

Orthotic devices: These are devices used to support, align and improve the functioning of joints especially in the lower limbs.

Osteoporosis: It is a condition in which thinning of bones takes place, predisposing to fracture easily.

Pronation of foot: It is the eversion or the inward roll of foot while walking or running.

Splint: It is a device used to provide support and immobilization to the limbs in case of fractures.

Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendon.

Varicose veins: These are enlarged and twisted veins, often over the lower legs.

Walking cast: Also known as walking boot, is used to immobilize the ankle while walking.
