Encephalopathy: Condition affecting the brain tissue.Neurotransmitter: Chemicals that act as messengers between cells in the brain and nervous system; they transmit impulses across the gap from a neuron to another neuron, a muscle, or a gland.
Disaccharide: Sugar (carbohydrate) composed of 2 molecules of monosaccharide such as glucose and fructose.
Cathartic: Very strong laxative that produces explosive, watery bowel movements.
Orthotopic liver transplant: Removal of the patient liver and placing the donor liver at the same site.
Esophageal varices: Dilated blood vessels seen at the base of the food pipe.
