Glossary

Ascites: Accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity, the space between the membranes that separate the abdominal organs and the abdominal wall.

Emaciation: Extreme weight loss and thinning as a result of loss of the fat tissue beneath the skin. The fat tissue beneath the skin is also called as adipose tissue or subcutaneous fat.

Creeping eruption: A skin infection caused by hookworms, causing blisters, itching and a red winding rash.

Cyrotherapy: Application of cold temperatures to treat lesions, pain, etc.

Nematode: Nematode is a collective term used to refer to various types of microscopic worms that are found in soil, most of them being parasitic in nature.

Electroretinography: A test that measures the electrical response of the eye’s light-sensitive cells, the rods and cones, found on the retina of the eye.
