How can Meningitis be Treated?
The most important part in the treatment of meningitis is early diagnosis and treatment with the appropriate drugs. Mechanical ventilation is essential in case of severe meningitis.
Depending on the cause of meningitis, appropriate drugs are given.
- Antibiotics - They are given orally or intravenously depending upon the bacteria causing the infection. Antibiotics are not effective in treating viral meningitis.
- Steroids - Sometimes steroids are prescribed in severe meningitis.
- Anticonvulsants - They are given to patients with complaints of convulsions.
