Diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

How can we Diagnose Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

Diagnosis of Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is made on the basis of history (description of behavior) given by the patient.

Most adults can identify with some symptoms of Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) such as checking if the door is locked or washing hands several times a day. But the disorder is diagnosed only when such activities consume more than an hour per day and interfere with the daily life.

Psychological evaluation can help rule out mental disorders.

Questionnaires like the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS) can help diagnose Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
