Prognosis
The success rate for hydrocele repair is very high. Long-term prognosis is excellent.
The prognosis for congenital hydrocele is excellent. The out come of adult onset Hydrocele depends on its cause.
- Most congenital cases resolve by the end of the first year of life.
- Persistent congenital hydrocele is readily corrected surgically.
- The prognosis of hydrocele presenting later in life depends upon the cause of the hydrocele.
- If surgery is necessary, hydrocelectomy is a simple procedure, and usually has an excellent outcome.
- In case of filarial hydrocele the prognosis depends on the size of the hydrocele and the amount of obstruction of the lymphatic system.
- If the hydrocele is large some skin may be redundant after the reduction of the hydrocele and may hang loose after surgery.
