Prognosis, Prevention And Follow-Up of Cancer of Larynx or Throat Cancer

The chance of recovery (prognosis) depends on:

The stage of the cancer
The ‘grade’ of the cancer as determined by evaluation (microscopy for example)
The location and size of the tumor
The patient’s age, gender and general health

Follow up

The tests that were used to diagnose the cancer may have to be repeated so as to know if the treatment is working; on the completion of treatment to know if any residual tumor is left. Based on the results the ongoing treatment may be modified.(3^✔ ✔Trusted Source

Prevention

It is not possible to completely prevent these cancers. However, the avoidance of risk factors (mentioned above) may help to an extent. But it is important to know that even in the absence of these causative factors, a person may acquire a laryngeal cancer. However cessation of smoking, tobacco and alcohol abuse can do wonders.
