Information about Malaria causing Mosquito
Life cycle of Anopheles Mosquito:
- 3,500 species of Mosquitoes are present.
- There are 430 Anopheles species present, of which only 30-40 species can act as Potential vectors for transmitting Malaria.
- Malaria is transmitted by different species of Anopheles mosquitoes in different regions.
- Anopheles mosquitoes undergo four stages in their Life cycle, the first three stages occurs in water.
Egg stage:
- Following a blood meal, the female mosquito lays eggs in water..
- The eggs are spindle shaped and are brown/black in color. The female mosquito lays about 50 to 150 eggs in water..

- Larva is the growing stage and the larva eats plentifully
Pupa stage:
- This stage is the resting or quiescent stage and it does not take any food.
- The pupa is comma -shaped.
- The pupa stage is very sensitive to movement and moves away from the source of disturbance.
Adult stage:
- The outer skin of the pupa breaks and the mosquito emerges from it.
- It takes ten to twelve days for completing the life cycle from egg stage to adult stage.
