Hormone: It is a ‘chemical messenger’ that is required to carry out various functions of the body.
Serotonin: A hormone that regulates sleep, intestinal movements, moods, muscle contraction, appetite, and certain cognitive functions.
Melatonin: A hormone essential to the functioning of the circadian rhythm, and other daily bodily cycles.
Pineal gland: The Pineal gland (or the “third eye”) is an endocrine gland, part of the vertebrate brain. It produces the hormone melatonin.
Circadian rhythm: The roughly-24-hour cycle for the essential biochemical, physiological and even behavioral processes of living creatures
Seasonal Affective Disorder: SAD, or winter blues, is essentially a mood disorder. Here, those with normal mental health experience symptoms of depression in the winter.
Retinitis pigmentosa: This refers to a group of eye conditions, such as night blindness and tunnel vision. It progression varies from age to age.
Immunosuppressant medication: Such drugs suppress the working of the immune system, used especially to treat autoimmune diseases or to prevent rejection of transplanted organs.
Lupus: Lupus is an autoimmune disease and a chronic inflammatory disease, affecting body parts like the kidneys, skin, heart, joints and even the lungs.
