Spina-bifida: In the spinal column through which the spinal cord may protrude.Amniocentesis: A prenatal diagnostic procedure whereby amniotic fluid is drawn for study from a pregnant woman
Anencephaly: A birth defect characterized by under-development of the brain and skull.
Hydrocephalus: Characterised by enlargement of cerebral ventricles due to excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the skull, usually associated with raised pressure in the skull.
Cerbrospinal Fluid (CSF): A clear colourless fluid that fills the ventricles of the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord.
Meningitis: Inflammation of the meninges (coverings of the brain- Dura, Arachnoid and Pia mater).
