Endoscopy – An endoscopy is a nonsurgical procedure in which an endoscope is used to examine the patient’s digestive tract or any other hollow cavity in the body. The endoscope is itself a thin tube like device that is fitted with a light and camera to transmit images to a screen for observation.

Laryngoscopy – A laryngoscope, which is similar to an endoscope and is a viewing instrument specifically for the larynx, is used to examine the vocal folds and other parts of the voice box. The device has a magnifying lens that allows the doctor to get a clearer picture of the larynx and the procedure is called a laryngoscopy.

Tracheotomy – This is a procedure that is used to allow patients to breathe directly via the windpipe through an incision that is made in the neck. This procedure becomes necessary when a patient cannot breathe through the nose or mouth.

Esophagus – The food pipe that carries food from the pharynx into the stomach.

Trachea – The windpipe that allows the passage of air into the lungs.

Tinnitus – Ringing or other sounds heard in the ear in the absence of an external sound.
