Pityriasis Rosea - Treatment

Treatment

Some of the popular treatment methods are listed below -

  • Exposure to Ultraviolet rays, either from natural sunlight or from artificial sources has proven to decrease the duration of the rash, besides controlling the itching. This should be carried out under the supervision of a doctor.
  • Medications, such as oral antihistamines, and calamine lotion may be prescribed as a solace for itching.
  • In severe cases oral or topical corticosteroid creams may be required to relieve the person.
  • Aveeno oatmeal baths may also be used to bring relief to the patient.
  • Treatment with erythromycin and the antiviral drug, Famvir, has been found to be very effective.

It will be reassuring for patients to know that Pityriasis rosea is not dangerous enough to warrant a panic attack. It is, most often, mild enough.

However, if the rash or the itching lasts for more than three months the patient must contact the doctor, who will have to conduct further tests to re analyze the condition.
