Symptoms and Signs of Reye's Syndrome
Clinical features of Reye's syndrome are staged into five. Symptoms usually occur after a viral illness. Rapid development of brain swelling ensues and may result in permanent neurological damage or death.
Stage 1:
- Frequent or persistent vomiting
- Drowsiness and fatigue
- Laboratory evidence of liver dysfunction
Stage 2:
- Personality changes, such as irritability and aggression
- Confusion
- Disordered speech
- Hallucinations
- Deep lethargy
- Hyperventilation
Stages 3 to 5:
- Coma
- Seizures
- Inability to breathe without help
