Diagnosis
Any sexual behavior can be classified as ‘addiction’ depending on its effect on the individual’s life. Diagnostic criteria for sex addiction defines it as a condition in which -
- There is a recurrent failure to control a certain sexual behavior, and
- The sexual behavior continues despite risky or harmful consequences.
An organic evaluation must be carried out if the following features are present -
- Onset of the addiction during middle age or even later,
- Previous normal sexuality
- Increased aggression
- Experiences auras / seizure-like symptoms prior to, or during, the sexual behavior
- Abnormal body habits
