Sudden weakness, numbness, confusion or any disturbance in vision can be due to a transient ischemic attack and needs to be attended to.

Symptoms of a Transient Ischemic Attack Include -

  • Sudden weakness or numbness of the face, arm or leg, especially one sided.
  • Sudden difficulty in understanding or trouble in speaking or confusion.
  • Sudden trouble in seeing with one or both eyes.
  • Sudden dizziness, difficulty in walking and loss of coordination

Diagnosis of Transient Ischemic Attack

  • Blood tests including a complete blood count, test for cholesterol and blood glucose will provide information about risk factors

  • Electrocardiography or ECG studies will help us know if there is a cardiac source for the attack
  • Imaging of the brain like CT scan or an MRI will tell us the cause; will determine if there is a block in blood supply or a bleed.
