Environment Policies to Protect Mother Earth
The climatic changes over the last decade has endangered the survival of all living species on earth. There is now increasing awareness among the general public, and regular campaigns have helped in formatting some of the current government policies.
There are efforts by environmentalists to save the planet by spreading awareness on various environmental issues, and one that has caught the attention of the entire world is the emission of greenhouse gases and the resulting ozone depletion.
There is now a ban imposed by many countries, on chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), a green house gas, which depletes the stratospheric ozone layer. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) is synthesized and used as refrigerants, aerosol propellants and cleaning solvents for electronic circuit boards. It is also used as as a blowing agents for the production of foam (e.g fire extinguishers). It is as such non-toxic, non-flammable and non-carcinogenic but the one free chlorine atom from the CFC destroys the ozone molecules for a long time. CFC molecules are known to have a long lifetime in the atmosphere of about 20 to 100 years.
Ban of chlorofluorocarbons is one of the several measures taken as part of a global effort to protect the health and avoid environmental hazards.
