Glossary

Urinary tract: The organs of the body that produce and discharge urine. These include the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra

E. coli: A bacteria normally found in the intestine that causes UTI

Vesico-ureteric reflux: Backflow of urine that occurs from the bladder into the ureter

Bacteriuria: Presence of bacteria in the urine

Hematuria: Presence of blood in the urine

Cystitis: Infection of the urinary bladder

Pyelonephritis: Infection of the kidney

Midstream urine: While giving an urine sample for culture the initial portion is passed and the midstream sample is collected in the culture bottle
