Symptoms and Signs
Along with excessive watering, patients with watery eyes also complain of irritation and blurring of vision. Increase in the marginal tear strip observed by the eye doctor on slit lamp. Other associated abnormalities may also be seen.
Symptoms of Watery Eyes
Patients with watery eyes usually do not ignore their complaint as excess watering is disturbing and affects the patient’s lifestyle. In addition, the patients frequently complain of eye irritation and irritation and burning of the skin around the eye, especially of the lower lid as the dripping of tears keeps the skin moist continuously causing dermatitis.
There is also distinct blurring of vision due to excess tear film.
Signs of Watery Eyes
On examination, the eye doctor observes that the tear film height is increased on magnification with slit lamp. Signs of various causes of epiphora like ectropion (out turning of the lower lid) and entropion (in turning of the lids causing irritation of the eye and reflex tearing) or dry eye (causing reflex tearing due to irritation) may be observed. Punctual stenosis or narrowing or closing of the draining hole of the tear drainage pathway may also be found on examination. Skin excoriation can occur from the overflow of tears.
