What are the Symptoms and Signs of Renal Cell Carcinoma?

Renal cell carcinoma does not display any symptoms particularly during the early stages of the disease. The classical symptoms of flank pain, flank mass and hematuria are usually seen during the much more advanced stage of the disease.

The most common symptoms of renal cell carcinoma include hematuria, flank pain and a mass in the flank or abdomen which is palpable.

Other signs and symptoms of renal cell carcinoma include -

  • Weight loss (33%),
  • Hypertension
  • Fever
  • Hypercalcemia (High calcium levels in the blood)
  • Malaise
  • Night sweats
  • Back pain
  • Vision –related issues

  • Pale skin
  • Varicocele, which is the enlargement of veins around the testes (mostly left sided, as a result of an obstruction in the testicular vein)
  • Excessive hair growth in females

The cancer can spread to other parts of the body if not detected and treated on time.
