Symptoms
The following are some of the symptoms of XY females. All or some of these maybe present:–
- Ambiguous genitalia with greater resemblance to that of the female’s at the time of birth
- Clitoromegaly ( enlarged clitoris)
- Partial fusion of the labium (or lips) of the vagina
- Labial or inguinal (groin ) masses
- Opening of the urethra into the vagina
- Electrolyte abnormalities
- Delayed /absent puberty
- Unexpected changes at the time of puberty
These individuals are usually brought up by their parents as a girl child. Doctors are consulted when the mother notices a fused labia or finds that the puberty is getting delayed. Many of them also present with primary amenorrhea i.e absence of menstruation.
