Glossary

Urethra: The urethra is a lowermost part of the urinary tract or narrow tube that connects to the bladder and helps to drain fluids from the bladder.

External Urethral Sphincter: The external urethral sphincter is the structure that allows voluntary control over urination.

Urinary incontinence: Urinary incontinence is a condition in which there is loss of control over urinary functions. It leads to the involuntary passage of urine and bed wetting.

Endometriosis: This is a condition that can affect women, causing endometrial tissue, which is normally found in the uterus, to appear outside of the uterus. In some cases it may be a cause for urinary incontinence in women.

Fluoroscopy: To put it in simple terms a fluoroscopy is a type of X-ray movie, but is actually a series of continuous x-ray images shown in real time.

Radiography: This is the term used for imaging techniques like x-rays that make use of electromagnetic radiation to generate images of the internal structure of the body.
