Diabetes: A condition in which the body cannot properly store or use glucose (sugar), the body's main source of energyGlycosylated Hemoglobin Test: A blood test that measures a person's average blood glucose (sugar) level for the 2- to 3-month period before the test. See : Hemoglobin A1C
Hemoglobin A1C: The component of red blood cells that carries oxygen to the body's cells, it also carries sugar through the bloodstream. Because the sugar is attached for the life of the cell, about four months, a test of hemoglobin A1C shows the average blood glucose level for that period of time
Fasting Plasma Glucose: A test for sugar levels obtained from blood samples taken after an overnight fast
Remission: A period or state during which the symptoms of a disease subside or decrease
Insulin Resistance: The diminished ability of cells to respond to the action of insulin in transporting glucose (sugar) from the bloodstream into muscle and other tissues
