Carbohydrates: A Good Competitor
Breads, pasta, rice, cereals, dried peas and beans, fruits, and vegetables are good sources of complex carbohydrates (starch and fiber). They are excellent substitutes for foods that are high in saturated fat and cholesterol. The type of fiber found in foods such as oat and barley bran, some fruits like apples and oranges, and in some dried beans may even help reduce blood cholesterol levels.
Contrary to popular belief, high-carbohydrate foods (like pasta, rice, potatoes) are lower in calories than foods high in fat. In addition, they are good sources of vitamins and minerals. What adds calories to these foods is the addition of butter, rich sauces, whole milk, or cream, which are high in fat, especially saturated fat. It is important not to add these to the high-carbohydrate foods you are substituting for foods high in fat.
So if diagnosed if high cholesterol levels its time to wake up and take stock of the situation. Heart ailments might be knocking at the door but you should not let them enter. Choose foods wisely and judiciously. As there should be no compromise with health.
I have to agree with Guest. seed oils and vegetable oils are bad for you. Eat like Lord Krishna of the Sri Bhagvatam for a few months [butter, desi ghee, kaleji, rice, vegetables, fruits, salt] and all your problems will go away. Do not touch seed oils, vegetable oils or fish oils. If you search for the harmful effects of these oils there is plenty of info on the internet.
Many articles now say egg yolk is not bad for cholesterol Is it so??
true thats why its better to avoid chcolates, butter, milk products too since they contain animal fat not needed ...ripe fruits and cereals are d best...all animals products even milk is not good..or honey...
Poppycock! Animal fats are what we have eaten over the entire evolution of the human body. We know how to process them. Some unsaturated fats have been in our diet over the millenia, bu tnot much. Vegetable oils are a new thing [proposed by "marketing" as being good for us - ie cheap to manufacture and easy to line their pockets] and our bodies haven't adapted to processing these properly, leading to stored fat and the obesity epidemic we are seeing right now...
