Symptoms & Signs of Depression
Your thinking style is the main cause of depression. When negative thoughts occur it affects your physical health and you have depression
The mental and emotional signs of depression include:
- Negative thoughts about yourself or others
- Loss of interest in life
- Feeling of hopelessness and worthlessness
- Inability to concentrate or impaired concentration
- Feeling irritable or tearful or angry more than usual
- Feeling listless, persistently in a low mood, or short tempered
- Ideation of suicide or recurrent thoughts of death
Physical symptoms of depression are accompanied by emotional symptoms. These include:
- Change in eating and sleeping patterns
- Weight loss or weight gain
- Reduced sexual performance
- Aches and pains which appear to have no physical cause, e.g., back pain
- Fatigue or severe exhaustion
- Reduced energy levels and physical activity
- Chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, asthma or even cancer
