Drugs and Blood Donation

Normally there is no problem with blood donation if you are taking a drug; however there are certain drugs that not approved for the donation-

  • Antibiotics – given for an active infection.
  • Finasteride (Proscar, Finast) – given for prevent the enlargement of prostate gland.
  • Finasteride (Propecia) – given to cure baldness.
  • Dutasteride (Avodart, Dutas)– given for prevent the enlargement of prostate gland.
  • Wafarin, Warfilone (Coumadin, Acetrone) – usually given to prevent blood clots in the legs, heart or lungs.
  • Acitretin (Soriatane) – given for severe psoriasis.
  • Etretinate (Tegison) – given for severe psoriasis.
  • Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret, isotretinoin - (Accutane)©) – Given to cure severe acne.
  • Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (Not same as Hepatitis Vaccine) - given following an exposure to hepatitis B.
