Glossary

Dehiscence: Wound dehiscence is a surgical complication in which a wound ruptures along a surgical incision.

Dyspareunia: Difficult and painful sexual intercourse.

Fascia: A fascia is a band or sheet of connective tissue, primarily made of collagen, situated beneath the skin that attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and other internal organs.

Fecal Incontinence: This is when defecation cannot be controlled and occurs involuntarily.

Hematoma: A solid swelling of clotted blood within the tissues.

Necrosis: The death of majority of the cells in an organ or tissue due to disease, injury, or reduced blood supply.

Necrotizing fasciitis: A rapidly progressive inflammatory infection of the fascia, with secondary necrosis of the subcutaneous tissues.
