Glossary

Cerebral Palsy: Neurological disorder due to a damage to the brain before or during birth that results in muscle weakness, spasticity and other problems.

Contracture: A condition in which the muscles, tendons, or other tissue become shortened and hardened, often leading to deformity and rigidity of joints.

Electrocautery: This procedure uses an instrument in which a direct or alternating current is passed through a resistant metal wire electrode, generating heat. The heated electrode is used to cut and seal tissues during surgery.

Knee Immobilizer: This is often used after surgery to help prevent unwanted movement of the knee so that proper healing can take place.
