Liposuction - Indications and Types

Indications and Types

Indications

Unsightly accumulations of fat can be removed by liposuction. Ultrasound and laser when applied to the fat, liquefies it which is then removed by means of a vacuum suction.

Liposuction or ‘sculpture from within’ can be performed to reduce excess fat deposition over the abdomen, thighs, trunk, face, breasts and thighs.

  2. Cases of ‘gynecomastia’ which refers to a condition of abnormal enlargement of breast in the male.

Types- Liposuction is of two types:

  1. Ultrasound assisted
  2. Tumescent liposuction

In Ultrasound assisted liposuction ultrasound waves are used to liquefy the fat cells, which are then sucked out.

Tumescent liposuction (super wet technique) uses large volumes of fluid, which is injected under the skin and helps in sucking out fat.

Liposuction using laser has also joined the fray of plastic surgical techniques.
