Glossary

Pericardium: Membranous sac enclosing the heart.

Inflammation: A response of redness, swelling, pain, and a feeling of heat in certain areas which is meant to protect tissues affected by injury or disease.

Cardiac catheterization: A procedure in which a catheter is introduced into a blood vessel and guided into the heart in order to measure blood flow and evaluate structural defects.

CT scan: A test using computers and X-rays to create images of various parts of the body

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging): A sophisticated test that provides in-depth images of organs and structures in the body.
